Chorley to Skipton

Route: Chorley to Skipton (and back)

So the morning finally arrived... and in true British weather style it was raining! Not heavy rain, but the stuff that, although you can hardly see it, it seems to drench you in next to no time. I'd packed my panniers the night before and they weighed in at 10.5kg.

We set off at 10:00 am and got two minutes down the road before I decided I'd cover my panniers with the waterproof covers and put on my waterproof jacket.

Although the rain was pretty much non stop we made good progress and soon reached the other end of Blackburn where we come across a couple of odd things...

The crocodile was very life like, so thumbs up to whoever made it.

We hit the half way marker before cycling on to Burnley and the Gannow tunnel (where Simon almost fell in)

From Gannow we cycled on to the Foulridge tunnel and had a brew at the cafe on the otherside.


From this point on the weather took a turn for the better and the ride from here to Skipton was actually warm enough to dry out are soaking wet clothes! The Gargrave to Skipton tow path is, well, not a tow path at all but just bumpy dirt, rocks, branches and grass but the scenery really makes up for it in places.

We reached the camp-site at about 17:30, pitched up, went for fish and chips and a beer and then chilled out and enjoyed the view from the tent.

We then set off at 08:30 the following morning and arrived home at 16:30, with plenty of stops for food and drink.
